Minus the Mountain Dew, Skateboards and here's an update on Wednesday's "extreme" Fast for Justice c/o Frida Berrigan. Today is Day 9 of this difficult fast.
Today was one of extremes. We experienced the extremes of ice skating down the streets of Washington DC and then swimming in the warm oceans of Bermuda. We also actively bridged extremes by interweaving visits to the Pentagon and to the Department of Justice with two different perspectives of the plight of the Uyghur men both held and released from Guantánamo. And at the end of the day, such extremes were summed up for us at Bus Boys and Poets when David Swanson, being interviewed about his new book “War is a Lie,” demystified all the justifications for war. Yes, with such a full day, it is hard to
imagine that we are fasting (and on day 8 at that)!
Or perhaps we are in a funny window of the fast, a practice that does open up to unforeseen extremes, where we seem to have an abundance of energy. As you will see in our open letter to Attorney General Eric Holder and the press release (attached below), we have planned an extended demonstration for Wednesday into Thursday to remind the DoJ that work day hours do not exist for the men detained at Guantánamo.
Our strength most certainly comes from our resolve as a community to open this dialogue with the DoJ, and that such a dialogue will be productive if it is done in the good faith. Fully aware that another risk of arrest and an overnight vigil is a relatively small gesture of effort, we hope that it is adequate and that our modest plea for a meeting will be granted. We will certainly keep you all informed. We ask that you keep us in your thoughts and prayers.

The torture of Brad Manning
BTC - We deserve better. The armed service members in this country deserve better. However- the sad truth is that Pvt. Bradley Manning is experiencing the US institution of torture and rendition consistent with being classified as a "terrorist".
This is what the United States military has been reduced to: extorting us towards crushing debt to pay for torture and incarceration of our own citizens when THEY TELL THE TRUTH.
Be reminded, we may demand a different standard than, "shut up, lay down and take it without making any noise".
Daniel Ellsberg, a pioneer in the art of the leak led a revolution in public awareness. This was before news organizations were infiltrated by cold war era military plants.
It's all we can do to to just stay dedicated to blowing the whistle; until The People come down like rain on the worst form of governance in our name in US history.
Without further ado, Mr. Daniel Ellsberg, says it again.
Try to stay sane. DO SOMETHING!

Leading a Path to a Prosecution
It's best during times of moral insanity to be politically ambidextrious, if you can. It's challenging, but you need to use both hands to get the hardest work done.
In light of recent events, the exposure of torture memos released and CIA exonerations; we spoke with David Swanson of AfterDowningStreet.org. He informed us of why NOW is the best time to impeach Bush and Cheney for their war crimes and how a prosecution would come about.

Obama Exonerates CIA & Bybee Get's a CA Job

In August 2002, Judge Jay Bybee wrote a horrific memo enabling the torture of detainees -- including waterboarding -- at Guantanamo Bay. In 2003, he was confirmed to a seat on the important Ninth Circuit Federal Court of Appeals in San Francisco. Instead of sitting on the federal bench, he must be held accountable for his role in the unspeakable crimes that took place at Guantanamo Bay under President Bush.
